Travelling by Local Bus or ‘Matatus’
Travelling by Local Bus or ‘Matatus’
Travelling by Local Bus or ‘Matatus’ as they are called can be quite an adventure. These highly coloured vehicles operate throughout Kenya and provide a much-needed public transport system. They also display a unique art-form with some very original designs. They run from Kwale to Mombasa and Ukunda and are inexpensive, they entertain their passengers with loud music which adds a dimension of interest to the journey. The ‘Kwale Line’ runs from the centre of Kwale to Kombani where you can get another Matatu to either Ukunda, where you can get to Diani or the Likoni Ferry which takes you to Mombasa. The fare to either place is around $1 and takes around 40 minutes.
